Adrian Barclay

Biografía

Contacto

Adrian’s work centres on interpretations of the landscapes of Somerset and Andalucía through paint and printmaking. He explores colour, form and texture through both abstract and more figurative approaches. His print practice combines traditional forms of printmaking — with their textures and imperfections — with the control and sophistication of digital techniques. These prints and acrylic paintings represent a new phase in his artistic journey, capturing a sense of being present in a particular place, and reflecting where he stands now on his creative path.

Alongside his artistic practice, Adrian continues his professional career as a graphic designer and illustrator. With his wife, Gillian Marles, Adrian runs the graphic design partnerships Marles + Barclay Ltd and Hospital Graphics, specialising in large-scale artworks and infographics for hospitals – they have created work for over 150 hospitals across the world. Alongside this is Adrian takes illustrations commissions – for which notable clients include the BBC, EDF, the University of Oxford and The Wall Street Journal. He has illustrated many educational non-fiction books, as well as several bestselling doodle books.

Adrian divides his time between Gaucín and the UK – where he has a studio space at Spike Island, Bristol. Spike Island supports and presents contemporary art and culture within a former industrial building. Its diverse artistic programme includes major exhibitions and public engagement activities.
